The activity started with a humble beginning in the year 1979 by installing the idols of Lord Ayyappa, Lord Ganesh, Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga with all Vedic rituals and Poojas. We are deeply indebted to the Kandla Port Trust authority for the help and assistance given to us by way of allotment of the required land for the construction of the temple complex. With the continued support and co-operation from the peace loving people of all walks of life of Gandhidham & Kandla Complex and outside. Further progress can be made in installation of idols of Lord Krishna and Hanuman, construction of gopuram, boundary wall of temple complex and accommodation for Pujaris (Priests). Thus the long-standing dream of the people to pray to all the deities at one place can be fulfilled.
Another facility was added to the temple complex during the year 2000-2001 by constructing Prayer Hall, Open Air Auditorium etc. and dedicating the same for the benefit of the public. The devastating Earthquake of 26the January 2001 shattered the whole Kutch District of Gujarat, which caused heavy damages to our Temple Buildings also. We are so grateful to the devotees and various organization and individuals for the timely help and assistance extended by them for the repairs and reconstruction of the damaged Temple Buildings.
It is written in the Vedas that a Temple is not complete unless and until a “DHWAJA STHAMBH” (Divine Tower) is installed in front of the temple with all Vedic rituals. In all the temples we have a pillar in front of the GarbhaGruham or MoolaSthanam which is known as DhwajaSthambam or Kodimaram. In Sanskrit, the word Dhwaja means ‘Flag’ that raises high. In the religious sense, whatever raises a man to a higher level of understanding and activity is a ‘Dhwaja.’ The DhwajaSthamba is considered as the symbol of hope and desire to overcome one’s ignorance. DhwajaSthambam is an indication of the spinal cord in our human body as told in Agamas. There are totally 32 spiral bones in our spinal cord and even the flag pole has 32 rings. There are many rules mentioned in the Agamas about the installing of this DhwajaSthambam. Whenever we enter any temple, we will first encounter this DhwajaSthambham.
The DhwajaSthamba is believed to carry the power of the God in the temple. The top portion of the flag staff has three horizontal perches or three branches pointing towards the Sanctum. These 3 parts symbolizes or represents the Trimurthis – Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. The DhwajaSthambham is normally made by using a single tree or single stone. They are decorated with either gold or silver or bronze or most of the times with PanchaLohas (5 Metals - Gold, Silver, Bronze, Copper & Iron)
It is said that one should chant only the holy mantras and chant His name while standing in front of the God in GarbhaGruha. Our worries and wishes should be told to god only in front of this DhwajaSthambam. Lastly after praying to all the gods, men should perform the Ashtanga Namaskaram while women should perform the Panchanga Namaskaram in front of DhwajaSthambam. There are few scientific reasons behind the structure of Dwajasthambam. Whenever lightning strikes, the metal arrestor (A device used to protect equipment from lightning, electrical storms, etc…), placed at such a highest point of the region, and induces the charge to conduct through it. The metal arrestor then conducts the heavy electrical impulse directly to ground, thus preventing the building from getting damaged. DhwajaSthambham is also a kind of Antenna like structure which receives the cosmic rays and brings it down to the premise of temple.
People of the Gandhidham-Kandla complex area and well-wishers from other places have been kind enough to contribute at their might for the entire noble causes undertaken by us.
We are extremely grateful to all those, who have contributed by way donations and/or by releasing advertisements etc. as without whose generosity and help this project would not have been possible.
